Alfonso D. Brooks is the Founder & CEO of AfriKin Foundation, a visionary global entrepreneur, arts and cultural curator, and leading practitioner of cultural diplomacy whose work advances citizen science, indigenous knowledge, and social transformation through the power of art and culture. For more than 30 years, he has championed the role of art and heritage in human development and economic empowerment, building a career at the intersection of creativity, equity, and global engagement.
A recognized authority in the Global Africa movement, Alfonso promotes unity, inclusion, and sustainable opportunity through African and Diasporic culture. His leadership is guided by a belief in a new way of being and a new manner of seeing—one that embraces Africanness as a foundation for kinship, dignity, and collective progress.
Through AfriKin, Alfonso bridges cultural, ethnic, and economic divides by designing platforms that use art and culture as instruments of dialogue, representation, and international exchange. His innovative programming—ranging from exhibitions and festivals to marketplaces and educational initiatives—reshapes global narratives around Black and African cultures while fostering cross-cultural understanding and creative economies.

Alfonso conceived AfriKin as more than an organization—it's a movement. The term fuses "Africa" and "kinship," emphasizing cultural connection across ethnic lines. Through AfriKin, Alfonso creates opportunities for positive transformation through thought and action sustained by academic articulations and aesthetic imaginations for the development of cultural industries.
AfriKin focuses on engagement and quality of care, rebranding Africa's image in the West to allow for more strategic business partnerships. Alfonso believes in using our Africanness as a basis of kinship as we bridge histories and craft futures.
Alfonso launched his first major initiative, a cultural festival exposing the best of Caribbean fashion, music, and dance to the United States. This venture marked the beginning of his journey in multicultural event production.
Expanded his vision with the Miami Reggae Festival, capturing the global impact of reggae music while raising awareness for people living in extreme poverty. The success of this festival influenced similar events in major cities worldwide.
Alfonso founded AfriKin, marking the beginning of a cultural shift in world history. The organization began producing programming that incorporates visual art, fashion, food, performance, and thought-provoking conversations.
Launched the inaugural AfriKin Art Fair during Art Basel Miami Beach / Miami Art Week, creating a platform for African and African diaspora artists to showcase their work to international audiences.
Today, Alfonso continues to lead AfriKin as it enters its 11th year, expanding programming to include the AfriKin Marketplace, Rockers Movement Radio, scholarship funds, and community engagement initiatives across South Florida and beyond.

Anchored in Afrocentric entrepreneurship, Alfonso also develops educational and creative tools such as The Infinite Colors of AfriKin coloring book series, self-discovery and productivity journals, and the Afrofuturist novel A Race of Necessity. With the world witnessing unprecedented turmoil, passivity is not an option. Through AfriKin, an organization close to my heart, I seek to harness the power of art and African cultural experiences to bridge the chasm between individual aspirations and collective well-being.
My life story is painted with layers of generosity and service, underpinned by a relentless drive to alter an often bleak narrative. While the battle for human rights and social justice is arduous, progress is palpable. Overcoming centuries of systemic prejudice, we're witnessing a narrative pivot from discrimination to a class and ethnic reality. AfriKin is my ode to this struggle, championing economic parity and universal freedom.
AfriKin isn't just an initiative; it's a testament to a transformative epoch in cultural history. Our ethos resonates with a generation reclaiming its identity, an identity unshackled from imposed perceptions. In assembling the dynamic #TeamLegendary, predominantly steered by women, it dawned upon us that we share a collective responsibility to champion positive narratives, dispelling deeply entrenched myths of superiority. We, humans, all trace our roots back to Africa. This shared origin binds us in an eternal kinship, making us all undeniably AfriKin.
In a world grappling with trauma and mental health challenges, the craving for nurturing environments and meaningful connections is palpable. For over two decades, I have orchestrated national and international events, marrying my promotional acumen with the technical intricacies of production. But, AfriKin transcends mere entertainment; it's a movement. We aim to enlighten and empower a diverse audience, all in a quest for global harmony.
We may be dispersed, separated by vast terrains and waters, but we are inherently connected. Our global family, on a relentless quest for self-realization, is weaving a tapestry of change, forging a new era. In essence, we are AfriKin.
